Does Data Protection (GDPR) apply to Maintenance?

Whilst one could argue that giving a contractor contact details for maintenance or repairs is needed as part of the tenancy agreement it is not a legal necessity: On the contrary, it is imperative that both the contractor and tenants are given a Privacy Notice which explains what data is being held by whom and where. Specific care must be taken if it is possible that the information will be passed onto another/third party.

If uncertain, it is best to give a Privacy notice so that all parties are protected; but from the contractor’s point of view it is essential that the landlord knows who will hold the information, for how long and when/how it will be destroyed.
